OpenSea confirms: Support for Solana NFT on the shelf starting next month
After months of rumors, NFT marketplace leader OpenSea confirmed on Tuesday that it will support NFTs minted on the Solana blockchain.
OpenSea posted a short message on its official Twitter accountAudio and Video PreviewOpenSea described the text of this video posting as "the best kept secret in Web3" and noted that Solana will be supported in April. Although no date is mentioned, April starts this Friday.
Solana is the second largest NFT ecosystem after Ether, with an estimated overall market cap of $1.5 billion across Solana's collections. The Solana NFT space grew rapidly last fall, driven by continued growth in collections like the algorithmically generated monkey artwork Solana Monkey Business, Degenerate Ape Academy and Aurory. Solana offers faster, cheaper, and more energy-efficient transactions than the ethereum mainnet.
The first news about the possible integration of Solana into OpenSea appeared in January this year, when Jane Manchun Wong, a well-known hacker and blogger, found references to Solana and the Phantom wallet in a section of the OpenSea website.
And just this week, Jane Manchun Wong found evidence of upcoming Solana support, including a Solana Beta image on the web and support for the Solflare wallet. Other people on social media have also recently noticed that they can connect their Phantom wallets to OpenSea.
OpenSea's teaser video quickly showcases several of the most popular collectibles from Solana, including Solana Monkey Business, Aurory, Boryoku Dragonz, Catalina Whale Mixer, and Degenerate Ape Academy.
The Solana Monkey Business account tweeted, "We're setting the monkeys sail! At the same time, Solana Metaverse platform Portals also tweeted, "Can't wait for Portals to hit the shelves at OpenSea.
On the other hand, Magic Eden, currently the largest NFT marketplace in Solana, posted a message saying "Come on! (bring it).
